This morning I invite you to grab your favorite cup of something and let’s visit a moment. Today is New Year’s Day and I don’t know about you, but there are many experiences on my 2019 life I want to engage. to drink in in my life. How about you?
On New Year’s Eve morning I awoke to a friend’s text. Things were not okay in her world. Thirty minutes later, by 7:30 am I was in my kitchen, bacon was sizzling, the table was set simply, while I worked on making space for comforting my friend, not for focus on my messy kitchen.
Having rolled out of bed immediately. My hair looked like something out of a halloween scene so a baseball cap was grabbed, it worked. The big picture was more important than my pride, nothing mattered as much as the ability to share my friend’s pain and to have time together.
Motivation and taking action matters doesn’t it? We can each make life happen when it matters enough to us.
The house wasn’t perfect, the breakfast a simple fried eggs, toast, juice, coffee and bacon. The truth is my guest simply chose water…for stress is that way. The menu of hope, encouragement, shared experience mattered more than the house, my hair, or the menu.
What a lesson yesterday was for me…one of the ideals for my life is to be a home where hospitality lives. When I pray over my home in my cup of solitude time, I imagine it as a place where love lives. Where hearts know they can be supported and welcomed as part our extended family.
Too often though, I let my own imperfections keep it from happening. Perfection thinking and fear which shows up as pride once would like to have said, “can’t do it” . “the house is too messy” “there’s not enough time” but love says “come over, we’ll sort it out” Isn’t that what God asks us to do? To let love win?
Are you applying the same responses to your own needs? Are you telling yourself you’ll sort it out, or telling yourself, basking in disbelief on the inside that you believe your desired life cannot be done, it is too hard, you’re too late, or your house is too messy.
What are you drinking in in your thought life? What are you pouring into your life? What thoughts are you allowing to flourish in your mind? Are you preparing what goes in your mug with care? Are you taking time to use that mug time to savor what you want in your life? What you already have in your life? What you affirm in your life?
Are you willing to believe you are able? Are you willing to believe in you?
Whew… that’s alot in your cup this morning isn’t it.
This 2019 I challenge you to daily make space for a cup to consider…a time out to drink in your favorite mug of something while you intentionally think of your blessings, your loved things in your space, the life you want to live and the life you are choosing each day.
Five minutes to let love win and take care of you!
Five minutes of solitude can make such a difference in your daily walk. I invite you to join me for a cup to consider on Tuesdays here.
Happy first day of 2019, I look so forward to being with you here! We’ll share many cups to consider together! What’s in your cup this morning?
Verse to pour over:
Isaiah 40:29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. I’m counting on that promise personally, how about you?
