The fall brings so many good things to our household. It seems the colors and aromas of Fall are among my favorite things in the year. As school years begin, our home takes on a different brisk pace as children go to college classes and fall sports begin. A homeschooler, our youngest becomes excited to define her fall semester adventures in learning. Homeschooling was not on my top ten things to do as an educator, but I am ever so thankful that our daughter’s dyslexia and dysgraphia encouraged us to do so. There is a wondrous thing that happens when school at home becomes the path.
Northern Alabama is in the foothills of the Appalachians. A native Arkansan by birth, the hills of Alabama remind me of Northwest Arkansas, and feels like home during this time of year. I love getting out in Vroomhilda and drinking in the colors of fall and stopping at roadside stops with folks who are making a living perpetuating good things such as roadside shops and farmer stands. It is good to buy ones wares from the farmer and artisans that make them.
This weekend the weatherman tells us we’ll have our first chilly air. The anticipation of sweater weather and a fire in our hearth opens as one of the gifts of autumn. We’ll create a soup and bake the cornbread and for a moment gather around the table and again remember that home is a good place to be.
