One of my favorite periods of the year is fall. There is something about seeing the leaves change colors and release from the trees that reminds me to focus on what matters in my life. I love the way change brings new looks and views of life. When we moved into The Tacky Brown House it was the middle of a snowy winter, we had not seen the trees in full plummage. This fall is especially beautiful to us as we leaven the many hues that the little farm has and appreciate her bounty of persimmons, apples, muscadines and nuts among the trails.
This is a change of season in my life as well. My parents are both gone now and my last child begins college this year. It has been a season of loss of beloved family members through death and the sadness of one choosing a different path. We are letting go of old ideas, as well making room for new growth. It is an exciting time of choosing to pare down and to deeply embrace this season of our lives. Les and I are so very pleased we chose The Tacky Brown House, it has been a daily gift to look out the windows and see nature in every room. The smallness of the house has brought closeness and more time spent with each other in conversation. I am thankful.
Spiritually it has been a time of letting go and allowing God as well. We have seen the storms of sickness, disease, and ugly this season in our lives, yet we affirm God’s promises in our life. They are enough. It is time of learning just how very present God is in our times of need as well as our daily walks with Him. A friend said this week she prayed once in a while… this season I find I am in more continual prayer, of thanksgiving, of reconciliation of His word to my life, of asking forgiveness for too often trying to find my own way without Him…and He is there…I am thankful.
How is your Fall arriving? I hope like the vibrant beauty of a newly picked pumpkin with warmth and texture and all the wonder of a beautiful fall day.
