Communicating and Our Gifts

We each have gifts. One of mine is the gift of seeing where there is no path. (usually because laundry covers the floor) My husband has the gift of making, he can “see” how to construct something before it exists. The past few weeks as we did more study in our individual gifts of the Spirit, we realized my husband Les, commonly referred to as Feller at home, has a tremendous ability to build from scratch anything he sets his mind to. Les has that engineering mindset whether its moving troops for the Department of Defense, or identifying how to bring peace to a situation with conversation. We’ve  been amazed at home as he has build #thetackybrownhouse into a place we love calling home.

We’ve been canning, decluttering and making a home for everything in our space. That means in a 1500 square foot house choices need to be made. One of the gifts of Les is that he realized immediately that he could build shelves into unused portions of our closets to give permanent home to things like holiday decor and a place for things like his motorcycle helmet.

The mess began. (Doesn’t it always get worse before it gets better when we really deal with our stuff?) We pulled everything out of the closet. Our oldest step daughter Kimmy came from Oklahoma for the week and she has the gift of organization and administration (surely didn’t come from my genes, so must have been her sweet mama in Oklahoma) Glad to have someone in the family gifted at home organization!

We saw Feller in a couple of hours transform the issues of the closet. Coats no longer hit the floor, a space for his boots when not in use, shelves for holiday decor.  Communication, its a grand thing. We spent 12 years not understanding how to communicate about organization, but in understanding that I need a strategy for organization and he has a great habit of finding a place for everything to call home, well, it’s called one.happy.family.
