Entering the Hotel Indigo in Dallas is like entering a party just for you and the hostess gives you a treat bag full of visual candy for your delight. The hotel is a historic building in Downtown Dallas, renovated approximately six years ago to become a beautifully done nouveau hotel. The rooms are small as all historic inns are, suites are compact, but the attention to detail in each room is beautifully done. Last night we had a graciously given impromptu tour of the meeting areas, dreaming of future gatherings here. In each hallway you see quotes that are written mirror image backwards, giving you the impression of living in Alice’s wonderland. In the ladies powder room, the mirrors allowed us to read one of the quotes in the mirror…..a breathtakingly fun surprise. The colors of the hotel are bright, sunshiney, and welcoming, someone took a real risk to create this visual space and the risk paid off!
Last night as Katherine, Rachel Anne, Lori, and I had coffee and cheesecake after returning from dinner (that’s one piece and four forks after all we feasted on at Uncle Julio’s) I thought to myself God is a God of unique design. For the four of us have as different a lives as I think we could have, yet we are drawn together through Christ to strengthen our families and share with others through our writings, conversations, and heart talk. Somehow God has interwoven our lives and the fellowship was so refreshing.
As I walk through the beauty of the Hotel Indigo, I keep seeing glimpses of a time in the future, a time when again God will gather women together to share in His love, to share with each other, to provide a safe haven for each woman to hang up her masks with her coat and simply be loved for who she is, and who she is not….and who she is becoming. After all, loving each other as we are, not as we wish others would be, is what God calls us to do!
This day is scheduled in workshops throughout the day. Tonight is CBE 09’s Award’s Dinners for Christian Book recognitions and the Book of the Year Award. Lori and I are blessed to have tickets and look forward to our first glimpse of seeing many of the authors we read and Lori reviews….in person.
God is good, the adventures never stop, and I am thankful!
Sweetie
