There’s alot to be said for selfishness…..it has its place.
However, this Thanksgiving, I tried to be the middle ground person and get the children to their other parents, get us all to a Grandparent and get back home in time to do what had to be done.
I think I single handedly managed to get each of the others to what was important to them and keep commitments made….and make it back home safely ….only to discover what I was most thankful for was that I would NEVER have to do it again quite that way.
Viginia, my father’s bride, did a beautiful job of the Thanksgiving lunch for 11 she hostessed at their antebellum him. Southern Living would have been proud to show the scene in the 1854 home in the dining room. It was truly set gorgeously.
Meanwhile 19 hours of driving in 36 hours and less than 18 hours there with my father and brother and his family indeed left me with many moments to ponder…..what exactly IS a family holiday to me anymore…but the little children made it to their Dad’s for the dinner, the college boy got to spend time with his dad and I, our girl had Dh for a day before he came to Arkansas, the inlaw parents and grandparents got in a visit with Dh on his trip there….and we all made it home safely to Alabama last night by 10 p.m.
Whew….
and yes, I did make the Black Friday sale this morning for the 2 items remaining on the list….and we didn’t go over budget for Christmas and it was paid for in cash….yeah for budgeting and planning for our family Christmas.
God is good! I am thankful for another year that we were all here!
