We had a blessed day yesterday. Leaving mid morning for Tupelo, Madison and I relied on Tom Tom to take us….funny thing about that Tom, he takes creative routes on wintry days, we saw parts of Alabama we’d never seen before, simply because my dear husband had switched the setting to shortest route, not fastest route. We now know that there are holler’s and deep country towns in Northern Alabama….towns like Littleville….and Iuka. Places I don’t usually see on the normal route. It’s always an adventure to go on a trip when Tom Tom is acting up…for I truly am directionally challenged and I trust his wisdom more than my own where finding my way is concerned.
Arriving in Tupelo, we got out our card making supplies and the green chile enchiladas we had made for lunch. Aunt Betty sat with us and caught us up with her news and adventures while we worked. Noon time we sat down to our meal and a luscious coconut cake one of the girls had made for us. Oh my gosh was it good! By 3 the girl’s came for Cappucinos, six gathered….and we loved hearing stories of their opinions on politics, one shared a recent trip to Holland, another told tales of a shopping expedition…it was such fun! I went home with one of the girls to fix her t.v. screen. Silly installer had set her up on so that the t.v. would have captions, I guess assuming an 85 year old might need them, well let me tell you, not only does she not, but she can hear better than I can! She didn’t want those darn words to block her watching her favorite shows.
Another girl needed help with why her laptop was continuing to tell her she didn’t shut down correctly, so we made a shut down list for her to follow.
Aunt Betty sent me home with a ruby red hurricane lamp that had been my grandmother’s, her sister. She shared with me stories of my great great grandmother, her grandmother Annie and her husband. We laughed over family times and remembered those who have already left us for their reward.
At four, Madison and I went to find her a dress for her father’s wedding late in February. You know its a modern world when the ex wife has that task. I was glad to do it though, as a tween, she’s hard to fit and we wanted the wedding day to be stress free and her to feel pretty. After six stores, we found just such a dress and brought it home……never mind that we will be economizing in other areas to survive its even at 50% off price! ๐ I hear French women don’t mind starving for beauty….we’ll practice being French a while. ๐
God is good, we made it home safely to a husband and son ready to see us. It was a good day and one I am thankful we had taken!
Family is not forever on this earth, we have to enjoy the sweet souls in our lives while they are with us! One never quite knows what tomorrow will bring, but I know for sure I will spend many happy times with Aunt Betty, my Grandmother Geddie and others in heaven one day! That’s one of the best parts of our God, he assures of our future in Christ!
It was a good day.
