That in the hall of shame museum there is an entire area reserved for my domestic habits? It is a genetic truth that my children don’t notice an entire tub of dirty clothes in the doorway to prompt them and then proceed to step over them…and they didn’t get it from their father…
This morning’s simple joy was to wake up early and choose to load the dishwasher and scrub the counters until they were clean (are there bonus points for this being done before 6 a.m.?). I set the table with the Christmas dishes and had the kitchen smelling like baking cinnamon before the children woke up. I do so love a well-done breakfast and my children loved waking up to it.
My plates are a $8.00 find from the Christmas I picked up Les in Atlanta coming home from Iraq….they are an early 1940’s pattern and there was an entire set of them at this depot sale….I love them!
Some of my favorite things are the things Madison and others have made for our home at Christmas….
Ask me to do an event for 8,000 people and it doesn’t overwhelm me, but expect to come into my 7 room home and find it organized and spotless….I’ll stress just knowing you are coming….if I think that a spotless home matters to you….personally…I go visiting for the fellowship not the inspections…
Today’s simple joy= realizing that there is joy in preparing for one’s family and friends to have a wonderful gathering in a peaceful lovely setting….and it did fill me with joy and thankfulness to see it clean and I did feel relief in not letting one more day go by where I felt sad that my kitchen wasn’t beautiful….and it didn’t take 20 minutes including getting out the dishes!
God tells us He will give us the desires for the work that is before us…and I have found that if I take time to ask God for this, He always gives me the desire to do things for others.
