Day 5 . Before you Begin…
Do you consider how you want to journey in 2019? This week during “Before you begin…” planning for 2019 I’m asking myself some questions to ponder, to take time and revisit a few times this week. Today’s question is “How do I want to journey in 2019?”
Planning, strategizing, breaking down tasks is part of what I do as an educator, as a strategist and yet this question has me truly considering it differently this year. 2018 was a year of accomplishing, yet so much of the journey was not the life I’d wish to live the same way again. Too often the days were rushed, the journey was unpleasant or lonely. What I desire for 2019 is more intention on HOW I journey each day. To choose the actions that will accomplish the life I want to experience each day, not just at the end of goals!
Time is such an irreplaceable commodity and I am determined to take time to explore what it is I want to eliminate in my life as well as accelerate in my daily time at home, with others, and with projects.
Part of that journeying concept is considering my surroundings, I think of the Redbird home in Camden and I always feel peace, warmth and relaxation even in the memories of living there. I took time there, during a very stressful period of life and created a lovely, organized space from yard sales and auctions so I could relax when I was there.
I’m not nearly as focused at the Tacky Brown House, which is the home we’re renovating in Alabama. Below is the yard sale, less than $300 total spent living room at the Redbird Cottage.
These questions have made me ask ” Why am I unwilling to journey that way here?” There I was more intentional about gathering with friends, the home was simple, not crowded and filled with colors that warmed my heart. I had more friends over and we simply gathered well.
What makes your daily journey easier? What gives you a sense of peace and purpose? What brings well being to your daily schedule? Who do you want to spend time around? What friendships and relationships need time on the calendar, and matter to you? What diminished, would bring you more peace or joy?
Before you begin planning the goals for 2019, are you asking yourself how do you want to journey as you live in 2019? Who do you want to journey with? How will you make time and space for that in your heart and schedule?
