Our church was sponsoring an event. We’re eight weeks into a new town, so its still not very comfortable to go to large gathering. While we wish to meet new friends, it seems so often old friends do not realize the new folks feel left out….us! It was a morning that invited staying home and not dressing up, facing one hundred people I don’t know….but we so rarely get to dress up and spend time together somewhere special, I knew we had to go. Miss Madison delighted in doing her hair and outfit just so and picked out something from my closet to compliment her outfit. She luxoriated in choosing earrings for both of us from my jewelry box and excitedly put on just a hint of pink lip gloss on her young lips. Entering the church the tables were done with linens and beautiful flowers, each participant was given a gift bag and the scene was astir with lovely.
While at the three hour event was not easily comfortable for me, Miss Madison made her way through all of it with abandon. She easily visited with young and old, hugging this one and that. She was asked to sing with the children’s choir though she’s new into it and gladly became one of six performing. Winning a doorprize made it even more special for her. Coming home she marveled over how wonderful every detail was, how blessed we were to be there and how glad she is that we went.
Growing into lovely……not always doing what feels easiest, but doing what shares joy and special times…..I wouldn’t trade the brunch memories for anything….she was so beautiful and joyful and such a blessing as she welcomed young and old, particuarly noticing our older members, complimenting their hair, outfit, or simply hugging them with the warmth only a young child possesses….I am thankful for a loving child, most of all that I get to enjoy her as my own for these short years.
