As a child the purest compliment a mother could give another child or adult was to say of her that she was a “lovely lady”….meaning one who’s light through whom joy shown in her mannerisms, polish, and the enjoyment that her presence brought those around her. In my childhood, this meant she kept a beautiful home, was polished and well done when you saw her at the grocery or farmer’s market, and generally could be found with a loaf of banana bread or hot soup for anyone in need at any given hour. It wasn’t so much exactly what she wore, but how she wore it, always crisp, to the best of her ability. More than that, it meant that she was so lovely inside that her presence in any situation added joy to it…..
I’m forty three now, married, mother of two, stepmother of two, owned by four dogs and one cat…..and it seems that I’m finally ready to begin growing into lovely….and you’re invited as I explore the things that I know I am able to do…but so very often haven’t taken the care to do….that add joy and happiness to not only my own life, but at times to others as well! I feel strongly God’s call for hospitality in my life, whether it be in my home, or in my interactions with others, I hope to listen for God’s guidance as He continues to grow lovely in me.
