Our every day lives are ever present, but every now and then we are allowed a visit, a window, to the places we were raised. At times these journeys are mental, where we remember smells, people, or places that remind us of a distant memory. Every now and then we get to touch a loved item or see a picture of meaningful moments we have shared with others. Yesterday I was blessed with a pausing of every day life to be with my family in Arkansas…to celebrate in real life the 80th birthday of my father. A day was spent with family and friends who span the generations. Moments shared and stories told that reminded me of how rich the treasure of our upbringing and how blessed I am to know such people. Other memories reminded me that there is lack in the world, and that in investing in others, we create a better world…and that small things matter.
Too often we do not pause any longer to set a table well, to celebrate that which is worked for, to let the moments go by that matter. It is fresh in my heart and mind that pausings matter….above all to praise God for the many blessings of the day. In our family we pray before meals, my Grandfather Geddie said often to me as a child, “in taking time to give thanks, we set the stage for the day to be one we can be thankful for.” Wisdom . Today I am thankful for family, both those who I was born into and those who chose me despite me….and I am enjoying the time we are taking pausing with family, friends, and journeys home along the way back to Alabama.
Today I am thankful for pausings to remember just how blessed we are.
Sweetie
