We’ve had a litter of puppies arrive this week at #TheTackyBrownHouse, our yellow lab Missy (Babycakes) gifted us with ten beautiful lab puppies. Earlier around my birthday in August she was scheduled to have preventative measures taken, but we missed the mark and a handsome black lab came to visit from a block away. Puppies are a rare thing in our labs lives, we’ve had a litter each with our labs. Dogs in our family are more like family members, so this week the house is a buzz with puppy grunts, sighs, and squeals. Mom Missy is doing great, but as a four year old with her first whelping group, she’s a bit exhausted. We’re supplementing her milk supply so we are exhausted too! 🙂
These guys are a noisy lot, five girls and five boys. We do not know if we’ll keep one yet, but they are already going quickly on kind friends calling to ask for one. They will be ready by December 8th. We like to keep them until they are eight weeks old to give them a little more stamina for the change in venues. There is nothing like puppies to help us realize that every thing is about exploring through fresh experiences. Even without their eyes open, they use their sense of smell, touch, and need to explore the world. Some are bold, others are timid, most prefer warmth and being held to anything else. All are loveable….
