The morning is quiet here, an unusual time of day for folks to still be asleep. I awoke early and quietly came to enjoy the morning view out the front windows and some reading time. The quiet for me is as refreshing as the sleep for them. I love such mornings, we each do what it takes to replenish ourselves for the weekend.
A renovation can be overwhelming. Each day for those of us who are completion driven we see “incomplete” circled in red as we see rooms unfinished. Truth is for me anyway that “completed” is never a destination but a process of progressing as I go…myself…my home…my business. So much of our satisfaction in life is strictly between our thoughts and our actions…sans engaging feelings to choices we made as though the choice wasn’t enough. Happiness then is more fully engaged when we choose how to engage the thoughts that lead to actions. I have no issue with this on the thought of “ice cream” ….”oh yes!” and the action leads to a bowl. However when I think on other such things such as “clean room”…I have had to learn to turn off feelings, and do the action then I can high five myself that I did.
What do you do to refresh yourself? For me its often getting ready for the day then taking time to read, explore something new, or learn. To bask in the newness of a day instead of rush. To take a five minute break to walk outside and love the sun streaming through the leaves. That is refreshment to me. To savor life, to savor flavors, to take the time to notice all that is noble, right, pure, and lovely in my life. It’s too easy to disregard all that is, while pinning for that which might be.
Today’s refreshment is menu planning for the rest of the weekend, it’s a trip to town with the family and lunch together. It’s a book and magazine late in the afternoon in front of the fire..one of the last of the season.
What’s on your day’s list today for refreshment?
