The ballgame last night was a humbling experience. 41-14 and son didn’t see a play. How often do we do that in our own lives? Prepare our own way, suit up, spend time we never knew we had, work hard and exhaust ourselves, then find out, it wasn’t the game God had for us. Boy did I recognize it for me last night. This week has been a week of reflection, of realizing that somewhere this summer we got off the track of where we were going. God is so patient to wait for us to recognize it and allow us to come and ask forgiveness for so trying to lead ourselves.
We were the totally uncool parents once again when an 11 p.m. activity was presented and we wouldn’t allow Son2 to go until we knew more about it, adults involved and where the end would be. It never ceases to amaze me that in the city, parents do not know or even attempt to know where they are releasing a 14/15 year old at all times of the night. The activity was legitimate, but only after we talked with the adult in charge did we allow Son2 to go. Even then, at 15, when they changed locations for the sleepover at the end of the activity, he had to call in (at 2 a.m. no less) to verify was safely in. It seemed from the calls we made, we are in the minority on that kind of parenting, its considered the norm to turn them loose.
I have to live with me, and I know that 15 still means you are inexperienced when difficult choices do need to be made, better to clear the path than to make them fight the brush alone…so they can know that when the tough stuff comes, we’ll help them avoid what we can, and be present to help during the others.
This morning was a lovely morning. We met the nicest family from Mexico and they shared flan with my Dh who loves it so. The look on his face was precious when the Mamacita brought him some of his own. How kind she was, beaming that this gringo from Oklahoma appreciated her skills…ones that had served her well for over sixty years. God was so present in that fellowship of families this morning.
This afternoon Dh and daughter are both napping and watching a cartoon robin hood together. I have a stack of Better Homes and Gardens magazines I grabbed for 10 cents at a yard sale, so my afternoon is made, my bed is fluffed up, my bath is run, and after a lovely tub I’ll be reading casually for an hour or two while they are napping. Tonight will be Mom and the two home movie night, Dh is working his 2nd job and we’ll snuggle and watch a movie or board game together and get to bed early.
God is good! He is leading me to peace again this week, and more importantly, he has shown me some whys as to what has been happening and the roots of it….tough extractions, but so true when the roots are removed instead of covered.
May God richly bless your day and answer your prayers!
Sweetie
