My daughter came home from running errands with her Dad today and wanted to show me a “surprise”. I love seeing Madison enjoy independence. You see, at 13 she’s too young to work outside of our home, but she’s managed to start a Simple Gifts Services…a few chores to do for others. She walks out neighbors’ dogs twice a week, she returns trash containers to their spot after trash day for an elderly friend, she house sits plants when another friend is out of town and waters them while she’s gone. She’s been known to bake brownies for a business friend’s early staff meetings for $6 a pan…and she loves doing it! Madison charges $1 or $2 for most of her jobs, but she is a diligent saver, this week she was able to put away $87.00 in her checking account from October! She bought the pumpkin decorating kit at Walgreens then Les donated the pumpkin from the Aldi’s sale for $2.50. It simply tickled her to give it to me and I was tickled to receive it! We don’t do Halloween around our home but we love pumpkin season!
We had a great shopping day at Kroger today. They had an unadvertised special on pork tenderloins for $5 a piece and rotisseree chicken sale for $2.99. We bought 3 of each. I love taking the chickens and making mass chicken salad with them when I can buy them this way. The pork we’ll grill and enjoy later in a few weeks.
The children had a great time in Arkansas with their other parents, and both came home with the usual…..tired out and slightly sick….so tonight we’re doing soup and sandwiches at home and sacking out with a movie early as a family.
My accomplishment for the day? I cleared the dining room table, did new placemats, fresh flower arranging (thanks to $1.99 bouquets of sunflowers and fall mums at Kroger) and enjoyed working with my morning of calls to make. The wind was wet and miserable when I got out, so I didn’t last outside long today..my eyes just cannot tolerate any wind at all right now.
Les and I have had a great time lately, we’re stretching and growing as a couple and learning that marriage in its eighth year is mighty nice.
God is good!
Sweetie
