It’s a rainy day at the tacky brown house, time to plan for our spring diy projects and summer fun! The house is a 1955 ranch style home that we purchased a little over a year ago at an auction. It sits on three and a half acres with an additional 10 available when we’re ready to expand. The goal of purchasing this home was to move from the urban setting to a more rural setting. The house is only 6 miles from our urban home, but it is a world apart. We love it.
Dh and I are both from small towns originally and we enjoy the privacy of having a little yard space. We have three neighbors, but each have a few acres around them so we’re all friendly but not on top of each other. Duard, our nearest neighbor just turned 81 and he comes up to visit on his John Deere tractor since his legs are often painful. A retired firefighter, he knows more of the history of our area than most and has shared many insights on our home, our land, and what works best where, after all he’s watched and known this land for over 40 years!
Last year we worked to get the house liveable, added new flooring, and began construction on a master bedroom and bath. We put in new HVAC, built a deck and worked to take out the many dead trees that needed removing. This summer we hope to add a small garden, complete the new restroom, and begin work on landscaping the front yard. We are a cash only family, so each project will be carefully planned for and budgeted for. I am a marketing strategist for small businesses and brands, as well as a web developer, so I am always energized to develop a few additional projects when the next DIY project is ready at home!
We moved from a 3000 sft home then to an 1800 sft now to this 1400 sft home. I thought it would be hard, but the truth is we enjoy the smallness of the perch. As a family we do not go off into our own corners as often, we tend to live and engage together in the family room. Becaue the outdoors is inviting, we are often outside cutting wood, seeing about the plants we began last year (hydrangeas and roses) or simply throwing a ball to one of our dogs. It’s a good life.
Each Monday we work on #15MinuteMiracles, a focused time of getting something done. It sometimes is decluttering, other times, sending off a thank you note , still others beginning a clean out of a traffic area. Join me! If you work during the day on Mondays you can post your pictures later in the day. We celebrate what we got done by sharing a before and after picture!
What are your DIY projects this spring? Today I’ll begin deciding which of the list of things we have to do, will be first for May!
