Each week on Thursday we tackle a task for 15 minutes to support decluttering action and outcome in our homes and offices. Today’s tackle it Thursday is at the beginning of the new season so we’ll focus on seasonal items that need to be put away, given away and thrown away.
Did you have holiday items you did not use this year (or last)?
Do you have holiday items that no longer fit your home or decor?
Do you have extra lights or stuff to do with holidays no one uses anymore? (I think we could have lighted two more homes from the “extras” we had collected)
Let’s get a bag on the sofa or a box (or tub) and today, TODAY, fill that tub, box, or bag. This is a 5 minute activity and you’ll feel GREAT when you have it out of your space. I put it in the backseat of my car, I KNOw I’ll be motivated to drop it off there, for we need the room!
Today’s “let’s tackle it” homekeeping task is an easy one: Set the timer for 10 minutes and take a large trash sack to each room and ONLY empty the trash then put any trash (empty kleenex boxes, etc) that is on the counters or in the room in the sack as you go. This is an easy one and adds so much value to the process of homekeeping. Bonus points if you put a liner (walmart sack or otherwise) back in the smaller room trashcans to make it even easier the next time. After you get through the rooms, take the kitchen trash and the room trash to the container, curb or your space to handle it. Tadah! You did it!
After the holidays there is always so much extra packaging and extra around that simply needs to go to the trash container. Lighten your load today by tackling that trash and let’s celebrate getting it done!.
A resource and motivation I’ve found is the 40 bags in 40 days challenge from White House Black Shutters that Ann Marie Beasley started in 2011. If you want community around you as you declutter your home, its a great space. Find out more here
