The boxing ring was staged, he’s turned 15….its an ever going heavy weight fight at what he’ll submit to and obey. Today’s matchup included the returning champion of “I’ll get around to it” thinking versus “The one who wants to be obeyed” She enters the ring with a “When is your Biology study guide due next” “I don’t know” he says. Dancing away from the opponent with this answer, I know there is a syllabus that tells him when every assignment is due. Coming back with a right jab “Did you by chance check your syllabus?” Dancing the avoider is dazzling: “It due the day of the test” he deflects, not admitting he knows when the test is, but its on the syllabus. Mom jabs with a “your last one was a 22/100, this is no brainer stuff, but it has to be done however stupid you feel it is” He counters with a “Mooooommmm……I’ll get it done.” going for the heart. She jabs back “It’s not me who will go to summer school if you keep ignoring the work required in AP Biology” and he comes back with a quick “Mom…please I don’t want to argue” hoping to draw his opponent in a moment of distraction off her intended target, in a much kinder tone, asking for a break between rounds.
Mom goes in for the knockout, there will be no mercy today…. “No study guide completed tonight, no basketball game tonight” and the player looks down and says “It was due yesterday, I didn’t do it” And the player goes down for a 10 count as Mom says “That was your choice, now my choice is to cancel your weekend plans so you’ll have time to focus on your studies” Both opponents, weary, return to their corners.
Ding ding ding
and so ends another round of Heavyweight Parenting…..you have no idea how brutal the training is for these matches….and she’s knowing we have to revisit this round on the lying that took place in the beginning of the battle…for not only did he know, he chose actively to lie by omission.
This too shall pass right????
