When do you realize how blessed you are? For me it is becoming a daily habit to stop and list things that I am thankful for. A dear friend, Sarah, taught me that she was having so many appreciative moments by simply beginning the habit of beginning her day that way. It is far too easy to fall into the assumption that everyone has the life we are blessed to live. I have been through seasons of locust, I know only too well, just how blessed our family is and how blessed I personally am, but my flesh loves to lavish in the “if only’s” of life and to strive for the somedays. Interesting than even wiki has a manual on how to be thankful http://www.wikihow.com/Be-Thankful
This week I am far away from home. The surroundings are pleasant and the company worth keeping but I am reminded once again of the home my family and I have. We are of humble means, but our home is simply home….messy and all. As I waited in the airport and as I listened on the plane I was reminded how many people are lonely, are lost, and are hurting. I heard tale after tale of the downtrodden and not from people of poverty, though they were present too, but people who were poor in spirit, no longer believing that joy would come again.
I believe in being a hope giver. To seek the ability to serve, to give, to share in the blessings of life. Perhaps it’s my need to do in hope that others are too. Perhaps its because so much was given to me. In order to be thankful one must realize just how many blessings are present in their lives…when do you take time to appreciate the blessings in yours?
