I watched a few older movies this weekend, then reflected as another woman thoughtfully shared that part of her “work” as wife was to take time to be lovely inside as well as out. That is something I believe in, putting on colonge and fresh lipstick right before I greet him at the door….I like seeing my husband’s eyes light up when he knows I did something just for him. The movies and interview have brought to my mind how my own Dh prefers me to take time to be lovely. When we dated I was teaching full time in a Southern rural school, teachers were expected to be in suits or skirts with hose and low or high heels. Daily I did the drill as well as took time to make sure I did my makeup and hair. The last year I have been homeschooling, working from home, and the days I put together my dressier side have been fewer and fewer despite the fact I prefer to start the day dressed and well done…..
but taking time to be lovely as part of my role as wife?
The more I have reflected on it, the more I know that for my husband, this is true. He prefers me to take time to make things lovely at home, to dress the house, to dress our children well, to take care of myself….and I am aware today, after meeting him for lunch decked out and make up, that he indeed deserves the effort it takes, whether or not I think it matters for the most part. I know he loves me muddy and wet from a sudden storm, but I also want him to know I do think he’s worth taking the extra moments to greet him well done.

Just stopping by, for whatever reason bloglines hasn’t updated you in weeks and then I hadn’t seen you on Twitter either, so I wanted to check on you.
I hope you have a nice weekend.
