Veterans day….a time to realize just what others have sacrificed to be where we are, as we are, as Americans.
My husband has seen personal experience in four war stages for the Navy and Department of Defense. His vision of America and of being American is different than most folks…he’s seen the poverty and deprivation up close and personal….he’s experienced deaths of close fighting partners and prayed and lead men in prayer in Bible Studies where the lesson was set aside to handle the waves of emotion a platoons death brought…..he knows what it means to send deadly weapons into the air knowing what cost their launch meant.
Our Veterans day was spend in a rather quiet day of old war movies, of sharing the experiences of being apart with those on screen, of knowing the feeling of calling on an unstable line only to hear bombing in Iraq in the background…..surreal….and the dreadful waiting when the line went off…..until the next call affirmed all was well 3 days later.
God is good, I am thankful for all the men and women and families who sacrifice for our country.
