My husband and I spend most Saturdays together, it is our play time. We go to local places, bum around in the country if the weather is beautiful, and often yard sail to hunt for something we love, or visit with folks changing their stories often hearing many at their sales. Today however, my husband has announced (after a fine homemade breakfast he made, mind you, (that should have been a clue on a Saturday) that he’d like to go hog hunting for the day. Unexpected free time, my mind went to laundry, and chores, and all the things I could productively do for this house. It’s not my nature to stay home and clean, but with my travels there’s still catch up housework to do. However today is Saturday and seeing how it’s morning, it’s PLAY time. So what do you do for play?
Play time for me often involves creating with a friend. Today there isn’t a handy dandy one local, so Google+ is my new best friend. I’ll call my friend Kristin, who is always up for a play date. She’s an author, in the middle of a house build with her husband, and is never adverse to playing. We’ll start the day with something fun like baking chocolate chip cookies at the same time, then we can draw, craft, watch a movie at the same time, or go shop together. We’re that kind of girls. There will be laughter, and usually a good bit of inspiration as we play…and typically by the afternoon’s end, we’re both happier, healthier, and a good bit full from cookies…ready to return to our roles as wife, mother, and in house chef for our households.
When do you play? What does it take for you to set aside the chores and simply enjoy doing what you love to do? This year is a year of allowing in my life, and if you need it, I’ll give you permission too…go, shew…play! It’s Saturday and it’ll do you a world of good!
My personal go to’s for play:
- Time with a friend creating
- Reading a favorite book
- Watercolor drawings
- Create something on the sewing machine
- Cross stitch something quick I can finish
- Draw a card to mail to a friend
- Bake something fab to share
- Putting on a fun hat to go shop
- Turning on the music loud to dance
- Playing favorite songs on the piano
- Skyping with a friend
- creating salt dough things for fun
- Making Valentines
For you it might be take a run, do some Wii, or something physical. Personally hefting the cookie pans out will count today!
Have a fun Saturday!
