Valentine’s season is a special one at the tacky brown house. Les and I saw each other from afar on the eve of Valentine’s Day. Neither of us knew what seeing a picture and an online profile would lead to, but we both knew almost immediately that we wanted to meet in person. In those days online dating was not considered “respectable” in the small towns we were from. My friends had placed an online ad on my behalf, feeling I was the least likely to date again as a single mom.
We’ve shared fourteen Valentine’s days now as husband and wife. Our children have grown up and we’ve grown up. Marriage is not for the faint of heart. I have been so very fortunate that a man from Oklahoma saw words I didn’t write, and a picture I didn’t take, and drove 600 miles each way for sixteen weekends until he convinced me he was serious about loving me and our children the rest of my life. I am so very thankful.
