This is my first year not to gather with family. The children are in Arkansas at their dads, my parent’s family gathered in Arkansas in another town. It’s a quiet morning, Les went hunting early in the day, and I have slowly and leisurely put together our dressing, turkey, and sweet potatoes as I worked on putting up a few things for this season.
Slowing down this holiday has been hard. My pleaser personality calls to me to break my boundaries of doing what is workable to drive 14 hours to be somewhere for a 3 hour lunch….I spent another day struggling with it yesterday, but chose my husband and my own needs over others. We need a quiet Thanksgiving….we can afford a quiet thanksgiving and so we decided that is what we will have.
I love the aroma of dressing and turkey in the oven. Pots simmering on top with broths and necks to make gravy with. Pumpkin pies and pecan pies on the counter already for that dallop of fresh creme topping. I love thinking throughout the day of all the gatherings past of Thanksgivings with the Geddies, my grandparents, of Thanksgivings in Oklahoma with Aunt Rose…of hosting all of them finally at my country farm house in Stephens Arkansas right before my mom died…
We are so blessed….I am so blessed…and most of all I am thankful this day for all of you, friends near and far, families I was born into and those who adopted me even as an adult….You are precious!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Sweetie
