The weekend was simply full of activity for the Berrys. We are in the midst of working on a garage to master bedroom conversion, a long process of over 18 months. The kitchen is now entering stage 2 of 4 stages. We moved in and gutted the kitchen, shored up the walls and plaster, and simply installed base cabinets that were painted to make it doable. I believe that you have to live a house before you invest heavily in changing it, so we made it liveable, opened up the two walls between the kitchen and living area with two five foot openings. We’ve loved this house, and now know we wish to stay here a long time if the Lord doesn’t move us, so its time to begin making it mine.
We brought in two cabinets from my office building to be a temporary fixture in the kitchen. I’ll finally have an excuse to buy those cute Anthropology knobs I’ve admired for the drawers and lower cabinets. We’ll (you know the royal we) doors for the uppers with something like chickenwire or upholstered doors. Paint it, then we’ll change its trim and match out the colors to provide a good bit more storage until we do custom cabinets with drawers in the kitchen. I love to work from cash only or bargains with cash, so we’ll wait until the cabinets are found the way we like them or can afford to build them with fully extended drawers. Meanwhile this is a great midterm choice. Feller brought them in and we staged them a little to see if we could tolerate the feel and we know now that once we paint, trim, and line the lighted cabinets they’ll do just fine.
Meantime, the wardrobe (read my closet in the living room since there isn’t one in the bedroom….yet!) will receive four shelves that become the china cabinet for the larger pieces and trays we entertain with. So excited for this change! (of course my clothes may be in interesting places for a few weeks!) Daughter Kimberly had kindly organized and run laundry for long days to get us caught up and put away. She’s got that fabulous gift of organization. Love that!
Working on Fall decor this week and bringing in a few favorite colors to make this home feel autumny in spite of the messes of renovation. If I waited for the house to be ready it might be forever, so we’re having a party for a college girl in a few weeks. Time to shine and make do so we can welcome the friends and family who will come listen to a band, eat a little fall chili and enjoy fellowship in and out of #thetackybrownhouse. Right now that may be a might concerning since the wheel of the tractor is off, renovations are full on, and I’m not sure when between schedules the house will get cleaned, but we’ll figure it out or put a table cloth over it. 🙂
Hope your Monday is happy, healthy, and full of good things together!
